(KNSI) – A local charitable group is sponsoring a new pilot program to encourage kids to read. The St. Cloud Rox Project S.A.V.E. Foundation and St. Cloud Area School District 742 have launched the R.B.I. Club or Reading Books Independently Club. The program will give elementary students free reading books for six different months during the school year.

The St. Cloud Area School District Community Education Department chose Oak Hill Community School to become the first beneficiary of the R.B.I. Club. According to a press release, 367 students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade classrooms will get books.

The classroom teachers will choose the books in the three grade levels. The Rox Project S.A.V.E. Foundation will fund the program 100% with corporate support from Marco, Wells, C.L.A., and BankVista.
