(KNSI) – Central Minnesota’s most famous walleye lake will end its catch-and-release only season this week and make changes to night fishing regulations. Walleyes have been catch-and-release only since June 1st.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says starting Thursday, anglers on Mille Lacs Lake can keep one walleye between 21-23 inches long or one walleye over 28 inches long. The one walleye limit will be in effect through Tuesday, November 30th. Winter regulations will be announced in November.
Changes to the night fishing restrictions will also take effect on Thursday. Fishing will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight for all species, a two-hour extension of current hours.
Muskellunge and northern pike anglers using artificial lures or sucker minnows longer than 8 inches will be allowed to fish during the midnight to 6 a.m. night closure.
