(KNSI) – A man was arrested after a more than five-hour standoff in Sartell.
According to the Sartell Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 200-block of 10th Avenue North around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday for an alleged domestic abuse no-contact order violation.
Officers say they’re familiar with the 36-year-old suspect from previous domestic assault incidents with the same victim, along with a recent history of fleeing police in a motor vehicle and on foot. Officers were able to remove the victim safely, but the suspect refused officers’ commands to surrender.
Police say the man instead began barricading the inside of the home and brandished a weapon. A perimeter was set up around the house and additional resources were called from surrounding agencies.
Negotiators from the St. Cloud Police Department attempted to de-escalate and get the situation and get him to surrender peacefully. At some point, the St. Cloud SWAT went inside and arrested the man.
KNSI News has a policy of not naming suspects until they’re formally charged.
The standoff caused several roads to be blocked off in Sartell and led to multiple school buses rerouting.
