(KNSI) – A police chase in Sartell ended when a fleeing suspect crashed and was ejected on Sunday.
According to Sartell Deputy Police Cheif Wyane Schreiner, officers were called to the Hi-Vue mobile home park for a mental health issue at 11:40 p.m. When officers arrived, they noticed a man at the park who had a warrant for his arrest on felony domestic assault charges. Police identified the man as 36-year-old Christopher Michael Lawless of Waite Park.
Officer says Lawless fled from police in a car at a high rate of speed. Investigators say he lost control of his vehicle and went into a field. He struck several road signs before getting back on the road. A short time later, Lawless lost control while going through the roundabout at Pine Cone Road and Scout Drive, hitting the roundabout approach and causing the vehicle to go airborne. The pursuit lasted less than a mile.
Lawless was ejected during the crash and taken to St. Cloud Hospital in serious injuries. His current condition is unknown. Investigators say he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Police say the incident remains under investigation.
