(KNSI) – A man was penalized after authorities say he drove into a construction zone north of Willmar Monday morning, hitting warning barrels and a piece of equipment.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office says around 11:30 a.m., they received a report of a pickup driving southbound into a construction zone along Highway 71/23 in Dovre Township near 41st Avenue NE. Authorities say the 1998 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by a 78-year-old man from Spicer, hit four orange warning barrels, then hit a concrete cutting saw. The Minnesota Department of Transportation employee who was operating the saw was not hurt in the collision, which left the pickup with minor damage.
Another MNDOT construction worker stopped the driver about a mile and a half away from the scene, authorities say. The sheriff’s office says the driver received citations for numerous offenses.
