(KNSI) – One of two twin boys found locked inside a hot vehicle has died, and police could file charges.

The Hibbing Police Department says the twin 3-year-old boys were reported missing on Monday evening. After neighbors joined the search, the boys were found locked inside a vehicle and rushed to separate hospitals. One boy was in stable condition and has since been released from the hospital. The other child was in critical condition and died on Tuesday. An autopsy will be performed by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Investigators say the father is facing possible charges. Police say the boys were in the care of their father at the time they went missing.

Possible charges for the father have been sent to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office for review and a charging decision.
