(KNSI) – A free summer concert series continues Wednesday evening in St. Cloud.

Troy Fritz of the St. Cloud Rotary spoke to KNSI’s Bob Hughes about Summertime by George, which will feature Andy Austin as the opening act at 5 pm. and The Killer Vees performing at 6:30 p.m.

“It is such relaxing music and it kind of brings you back to the good old days of country music,” Fritz said. “These guys do it second to none, so this is going to be a fun show tonight. Everybody will know all the words, and I think they’re going to have fun singing along, stomping their feet and just enjoying the great entertainment that The Killer Vees put on.”

Last week’s concert forged ahead despite concerns over the high heat index and poor air quality.

“My number one job was making sure the entertainers didn’t pass out on stage,” Fritz said. “They had about 20 fans going up on the stage there, and they did a great job. … When we ask folks to hydrate, take care of themselves, come hydrated to the event, people really participate.”

In addition to kids’ activities and food vendors, Fritz says there will be something new tonight.

“Starting tonight, for the rest of the season, we’re going to be having the big video screen, the big Jumbotron,” he said, adding that it will help boost the visibility of the performers as sunsets start to happen earlier in the evenings.

“We’re over the halfway point now in the season,” Fritz said. “We’ve got fantastic shows, and I hope people just keep coming down and join in, build community, get together with people, introduce yourself — that’s what it’s all about.”
