(KNSI) – The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University will require that all staff, faculty and students be vaccinated against COVID-19 before returning to campus this fall.
In a letter from the campuses’ transitional presidents, Dr. James Mullen Jr. and Laurie Hamen, they say the requirement is the result of the delta COVID-19 variant spreading and causing an uptick in cases nationally and statewide.
“This decision is driven by our desire to provide a safe, on-campus experience for our students and employees this fall and gives us the best chance for in-person classes, athletic events, community living and all the benefits our community has to offer,” the letter reads. “Following our guiding Benedictine values, we will continue to care for our community and show respect for all persons. We appreciate your flexibility and willingness to be adaptable for the good of the entire community.”
CSB/SJU says employees should receive at least their first dose of the vaccine before August 24th, and students should do so by August 26th. CSB/SJU adds that there is an opportunity to be exempted under the state’s Immunization Law.
