(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 632 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths on Monday amid a nationwide increase in COVID cases as the more transmissible Delta variant spreads.
There are 53 new cases in the five-county St. Cloud area: eight in Benton County, three in Morrison County, 10 in Sherburne County, 27 in Stearns County and nine in Wright County.
In Minnesota’s hospitals, 229 people are hospitalized due to COVID. Sixty-eight of those patients are receiving intensive care.
Monday’s new cases were found out of 18,089 COVID tests processed statewide Friday — 3.5 percent of those tests returned positive results. Additionally, all six deaths reported Monday were residents of long-term care or assisted living. They were residents of Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey, St. Louis and Washington counties.
Meanwhile, more than 28,000 Minnesotans got either their first or second COVID vaccine shots last week, adding to the nearly 3,160,000 Minnesotans age 12 and older who are at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19.
