(KNSI) – What the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is calling an unprecedented air quality event is set to continue over the weekend.
Wildfire smoke from Canada started moving into Minnesota early Thursday morning, and now the whole state is under an air quality alert until Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The MPCA says the worst of the smoke is expected Saturday morning, and St. Cloud is forecasted to have air quality index conditions in the purple or very unhealthy category. It’s advised that people with heart or lung conditions, the elderly and children avoid any outdoor activity, and the general public should avoid prolonged exertion.
The unprecedented long duration air quality event continues across Minnesota. The air quality alert has been extended until 3pm Tuesday and now includes all of Minnesota. Purple, Red, and Orange AQI conditions are forecasted, with the worst arriving Saturday morning. #MNwx #AQI pic.twitter.com/1RQjwumbi4
