(KNSI) – The man who is suspected of driving the car that crashed Saturday, killing Mack Motzko and another man turned himself into Orono Police on Wednesday.

Neighbors reported the vehicle was going faster than 100 mph in a 40 mph zone around a curve on a small hill when the car crashed near the suspect’s home in Orono. The driver allegedly told police at the scene of the crash that he was guilty. The 51-year-old suspect was booked into the Hennepin County Jail and held on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide.

Twenty-four-year-old Sam Schuneman and 20-year-old Motzko, who graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral High School in 2020, and the son of former St. Cloud State University Coach and current Gopher Men’s Hockey Coach Bob Motzko, were both killed in the crash.

Bob Motzko coached the SCSU Huskies for 13 seasons before moving to the U in 2018.
