(KNSI) – The Benton County Fair is a week away, and the sheriff says his department is ready to keep it safe.

The Anoka County Fair had to close down on Saturday after two large fights.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says a fair is an all-hands-on-deck event for deputies.

“We have been making plans. We’ve been looking at some of the things going on. And we’re going to do our best to ensure that people understand that stuff like what happened in Anoka is not going to be tolerated at the Benton County Fair. We want to make sure that the fair is a safe place for everyone to come and enjoy themselves.”

He says they’re prepared for the worst and are hoping for the best.

“You know, we’re definitely concerned that it seems right now we’re an angry society. And we want to make sure that we’re watching for that at the same time. I think that the vast majority of people are just happy to get out and enjoy some of these things right now. So I think that is going to be overall an enjoyable fair.”

The sheriff says every year is different, but it’s usually in the midway or the beer garden if there are any security issues.

The Benton County Fair is August 3rd through the 8th in Sauk Rapids.
