(KNSI) – The Big Lake Police Department has hired its interim police chief as the new police chief.
Matt Hayen has been given the official title of Big Lake Police Chief after holding the position since May after former Chief Joel Scharf resigned due to medical issues.
Hayen started in law enforcement in 2006 and has been with the Big Lake Police Department since 2016.
He says he’s excited to continue to lead the department in a positive direction.
Hayen was officially sworn in at last week’s city council meeting.
