(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Fire Department’s Chemical Assessment Team was called out to a spill of a white powdery substance on the side of the road near Litchfield Monday morning.
A critical incident report from the fire department says roughly 50 to 75 pounds of the substance was spilled on the side of the road at Highway 22 and Highway 12 in Litchfield at 8:25. The substance turned out to be sodium bicarbonate or baking soda.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation worked with a contractor to clean up the spill. The St. Cloud Fire Department helped out, along with the Litchfield Fire Department, the state Fire Marshal, MnDOT, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
