(KNSI) – A St. Cloud Metro Bus Driver is the best in Minnesota, and another wins a prestigious honor.

Two Metro Bus Dial-a-Ride Operators took away the highest awards during the 33rd annual Minnesota Public Transportation Association (MPTA) Minnesota State Bus Roadeo held at St. Cloud State University.

Twenty-year Metro Bus driver David Peacock won the Small Bus Division.

It’s the third time Peacock has won at the state level competed in local and state Roadeos numerous times during his career.

He will represent Minnesota at the International Bus Competition later this year.

St. Cloud Metro Bus driver Larry Dolan won the prestigious Drivers Choice-Duane Dufner Memorial Award.

Roadeo participants voted on the honor and recognized the bus operator who was the most helpful to their colleagues at the event.

According to a statement from Metro bus, Dolan’s knowledge and sense of humor contributed to a relaxed yet educational experience for the other bus operators.

Drivers were tested on their skill and safety while operating a bus.

There were two divisions of buses:
– Large buses used for Fixed Route service, otherwise known as city buses, are the full-sized buses most people picture when they think of public transit.

– Small buses are often used for paratransit, such as Metro Bus’s Dial-a-Ride service and other on-demand type services like Metro Bus’s ConneX service in Sartell.

The competition featured 26 of the top bus drivers in Minnesota, including seven from the St. Cloud area.

St. Cloud Metro Bus operates seven days a week and provides 1.6 million bus passenger trips a year in St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and Waite Park.
