(KNSI) – Road construction on Interstate 94 between Clearwater and Maple Grove is causing some new lane closures.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, the left lane on westbound I-94 will be closed between the start of the bypass lane near Weaver Lake Road and Maple Grove Parkway.
At 10 p.m., crews will close both local access lanes on westbound I-94 at the exit to Maple Grove Parkway.
Motorists will need to exit at Maple Grove Parkway and continue on the parkway to Highway 610 to westbound I-94.
The closures are necessary so that crews can pave the deceleration lane for the temporary Maple Grove Parkway ramp.
The local lanes will reopen the next day at 6 a.m., Friday.
Please note the bypass lane on westbound I-94 will remain open.
Motorists needing to access Highway 101 should take the bypass lane to Highway 241 to eastbound I-94 to Highway 101.
Access will be maintained:
To Weaver Lake Rd. and Maple Grove Pkwy. from westbound I-94
To Hwy 101 from Hwy 610 using local lanes
To westbound I-94 from Maple Grove Parkway using the ramp from westbound Maple Grove Parkway.
Starting Friday, crews will close the ramp from Weaver Lake Road to westbound I-94 in Maple Grove.
Motorists will be detoured from Weaver Lake Road to Elm Creek Bulavard to Hwy 610 to westbound I-94. The ramp will reopen Fri, Aug. 6. Please plan ahead and give yourself additional time or seek an alternate route.
We are making improvements to a 39-mile stretch of I-94 between Maple Grove and Clearwater that includes more travel lanes, bridge replacements, new bridges, improved drainage, and the resurfacing of deteriorating pavement. Additionally, a new interchange is being constructed on I-94 near the city of Dayton. The improvements will reduce congestion, improve safety, improve freight movement, enhance economic vitality and provide a smoother ride for users of I-94. The project began in 2019 and is expected to be complete by 2021.
