(KNSI) – Sauk Rapids will cut the ribbon on its newest entertainment venue and celebrate with the launch of a summer concert series.
Rock the Riverside-Riverside Nights is a 10-week concert series that will take place on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at ‘The Clearing,’ which covers both Southside Park and Lion’s Park.
The first performers are Paul Diethelm (from the Fabulous Armadillos) and headliner Strange Daze.
Sauk Rapids City Administrator Ross Olson described ‘The Clearing’ at 195 River Avenue South.
“So you’re going to be experiencing not only an outdoor music venue, but you’re going to be looking at a very beautiful structure that is available to the community.”
The clearing includes an 1850-square-foot amphitheater that can be used for musical performances, family gatherings, wedding receptions, and all kinds of events.
Olson says Sauk Rapids has always wanted to do something with the property.
“I think the city council always wanted to do something special with this property, I mean, it’s right along the Mississippi River. And sometimes the Mississippi River is a little overlooked here, and we have this gem that’s right in our in our community. And we wanted to utilize it to its highest potential.”
The new facility also includes an event center named Riverside Terrance and another smaller building called The Lookout.
Sauk Rapids will release more information about renting the facilities soon
Before the music starts, the Sauk Rapids City Council and Housing Redevelopment Authority will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and public dedication at 5 p.m.
