(KNSI) – Officials want to know how the public feels about transportation improvements in the St. Cloud area.
The St. Cloud Area Planning Organization asks people to go online to learn more about the Southwest Beltline Corridor Study and complete a survey.
According to planners, an arterial corridor in the southwest portion of the st. Cloud area has been a critical component of the transportation vision for the region for 30 years.
The study is in phase one of the planning process. The project would link County Road 75 and Highway 15 in the Southwest portion of the metro area.
The Southwest Beltline Corridor Study is designed to identify the corridor’s purpose, needs, and benefits.
To evaluate potential alignments, crosssections, traffic control needs, build support, and policies to set the stage for future construction.
The entire Beltline Corridor would add around 77 miles of road but would reduce the number of lane miles approaching or at capacity by approximately 33% in the year 2045.
The forecasted traffic volume for the Southwest portion of the Beltline Corridor is anticipated to be approximately 13,600 vehicles per day in the year 2045.
The community survey will be available through July 16.
The St. Cloud Area Planning Organization, in partnership with St. Joseph, Waite Park, St. Cloud, Stearns County, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), is leading the Southwest Beltline Corridor Study.
The St. Cloud Area Planning Organization encourages people to sign up for email updates to stay informed about the study.
