(KNSI) – As the Fourth of July approaches, personal finance website WalletHub has released a ranking of the nation’s most patriotic states. Due to the high civic engagement of its residents, Minnesota places eighth overall.
The report says Minnesota comes in first for its civic education requirement, second for the percentage of adults who voted in the last election and second for its volunteer rate. Minnesota also has high rates of Peace Corps and Americorps participation (11th and 4th, respectively).
The report also measured military engagement in each state, something Minnesota didn’t score as high in; the state has the fifth-lowest average number of military enlistees in the country.
By these metrics, Montana is the most patriotic state and New York the least.
