(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Police Department has arrested one person and is continuing to investigate after a man was fatally shot in St. Cloud early Sunday morning.
Authorities say officers were sent to a home in the 2600 block of Island View Drive around 6:15 a.m. after learning that a man was shot while he was standing in the doorway of the home. When officers arrived, they found the man injured inside the home. The suspect had left the scene by then, and the man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he later died. The victim will undergo an autopsy by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
After officers led an unsuccessful K-9 track to find the suspect, SCPD says dispatch received a call about a man walking with a handgun in the 1200 block of 4th Avenue South. Officers then arrested the 45-year-old Duluth man and recovered the gun from him. SCPD says the man admitted he shot the victim.
He awaits charges in the Stearns County Jail. SCPD says the shooting is still under investigation, but authorities believe the shooting was random.
