(KNSI) – With extreme fire risk conditions across Minnesota today, the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 18th.

The warning includes the five-county St. Cloud area of Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright.

A red flag warning means the area is experiencing critical weather conditions ideal for wildfire, including strong winds and low humidity. The public is asked not to do any burning while the warning remains in effect and check any burning done recently to ensure the fire is out. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says any spark could become a wildfire under red flag conditions.

The DNR’s latest map shows that the five-county area has a very high fire danger. Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright Counties have restricted burning, and those with agency-approved permits only may do any burning. Morrison County has no open burning, but campfires are allowed.

From Norman County, east to Hubbard County, south to Pope County, and west to Big Stone County, the fire danger is listed as extreme, and burning is restricted.
