(KNSI) – COVID-19 cases continue to decline as more Minnesotans get vaccinated.

The state reached 3 million residents who’ve received at least one shot earlier this week, and since Monday, 561 new COVID cases have been confirmed across the state. That number includes 42 new cases in the five-county St. Cloud area.

The Minnesota Department of Health confirmed fewer than 100 cases on both Tuesday and Wednesday, the first time the state saw daily COVID-19 case numbers that low since April 2020.

This week’s positive cases were found out of more than 57,000 COVID tests completed and processed — this means just 0.98 percent of Minnesotans who got tested for COVID in the last five days ended up with a positive case.

However, the Minnesota Department of Health did confirm 19 more COVID-19 deaths this week, including three in the St. Cloud area: one Morrison County resident in their 90s, one Sherburne County resident in their 80s and a Wright County resident in their 50s.

Just over 54 percent of Minnesota’s total population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 50.3 percent of residents are now considered fully vaccinated. Several counties, like Cook, Hennepin, Olmstead, Ramsey and Washington, have vaccinated more than 70 percent of their populations eligible for the vaccine (ages 12 and up).

Percent of the eligible population (12+) vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one dose:

  • State of Minnesota: 64.1 percent
  • Benton County: 44 percent
  • Morrison County: 45 percent
  • Sherburne County: 46 percent
  • Stearns County: 50 percent
  • Wright County: 54 percent
