(KNSI) – Authorities have identified the man whose body parts were found scattered around a Minneapolis neighborhood Thursday.
Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder says the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minneapolis Police, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension say pieces of the body of Adam Richard Johnson of Minneapolis were found in two locations Thursday morning.
A passerby discovered Johnson’s leg wrapped in plastic in the grass outside a building in northeast Minneapolis about 9:30. More pieces were found a short distance away.
Elder said the 36-year-old Johnson’s nature and cause of death would be determined later but earlier said the injuries Johnson suffered “would not have been survivable.”
In a Friday night press conference, Elder explained that investigators are still working the case, and they are not sure if Johnson was a missing person, but did say Johnson is someone they are familiar with but did not explain further how.
Elder said that the homicide seemed to be recent and that this attack appeared focused and not random. Elder also said the police department spoke with other investigators, including retired investigators who said this does not fit any previous modus operandi of anyone they’ve ever dealt with.
Elder says not all of Johnson’s body parts have been found, and the investigation is ongoing.
This is the city’s 43rd homicide of the year.
