(KNSI) – Stearns Electric asks customers to conserve power during the recent heatwave.
The company is asking people to cut back energy use until 10 p.m. on Thursday.
To save energy, postponing the use of appliances such as washers, dryers, and dishwashers until after 10 p.m.
Set the thermostat on your central air conditioner to 78 degrees or higher.
Turn off lights and appliances that are not essential to health and safety.
Turn off computers and other electrical equipment when not in use.
Keep shades pulled, and doors and windows closed during the day.
Use a microwave oven instead of an electric oven or gas stove.
Supplement air-conditioner use with ceiling fans and other fans creates a wind-chill effect that increases air-conditioning cooling efficiency.
Take shorter showers.
According to the power company, the heat has prompted the electric transmission system operator in Central Minnesota to issue a maximum generation emergency event.
