(KNSI) – The Central Minnesota Builders Association has a new event this month to raise funds for its Tools for Schools program.
The CMBA has operated the Tools For Schools program for years and decided on a fundraiser the students could participate in this year.
CMBA teamed up with seven schools and made boards for the bean bag tournament later this month.
Executive Director Wanda Schroder says each school made a set of different boards like Sartell-St. Stephen High School.
“The boards that they built really unique. What they did was they build built the boards with their old floor in their gym in the old high school. So kind of neat, you know, it’s got a little bit of sentimental value for those folks that have graduated from that school.”
Along with Sartell, Sauk Rapids-Rice High School, North Junior High, Foley, Becker, Kimball, and Melrose High School are participating in the project.
At the end of the tournament, the boards will be auctioned off.
Schroder says they sponsor the Tools For Schools program because the trades in Central Minnesota need workers.
“the goal of that program is, is to really help students understand that there are building careers and trades opportunities for them, and their great career opportunities. So we really want to help our membership grow their future workforce.”
The CMBA is hosting a bean bag toss tournament on Thursday, June 24th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Molitor’s Quarry Grill and Bar in Sauk Rapids.
Twenty-three teams are competing and registration is full.
Bidding for the boards will begin next week.
