(KNSI) – The Sartell American Legion will hold a Memorial Day Service.
The ceremony takes place at Veterans Park, 62 Riverside Avenue North in Sartell, at 9 a.m.
Sartell State Representative Tim O’Driscoll helped organize the event and was a guest on KNSI’s Ox in the Afternoon with Dan The Ox Ochsner.
“We’re having a little bit bigger ceremony than we did last year, but not as grand as we’ve done in the past. But nonetheless, Sartell will continue to honor the memory of the fallen heroes who keep our freedoms free.”
The 20-minute service will include traditional legion prayers, a rifle salute, and other traditional legion activities.
There will be no school marching band, bagpipers, or special dignitaries this year.
O’Driscoll says if you’re too busy enjoying the long weekend to make it to a service, take a moment to remember what Memorial Day represents.
“Veterans would say Memorial Day is a camping weekend. It’s a get-together weekend. But take a moment to stop and pause and remember those who have lost their lives in service to this country.”
In the past, around 300 people would attend the service.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be held across the street at the Watab Park picnic shelter.
