(KNSI) – More COVID-19 restrictions are ending in Minnesota.

Starting Friday, May 28, all remaining outdoor limits and indoor activity restrictions end. Minnesota ended its mask mandate two weeks ago.

Governor Tim Walz says he’s convinced Minnesota is ready to take the next step.

“Our belief was in that modeling that you were going to see a significant drop off which we’ve seen 50% drop off in cases in the last 10 days, that by the end of May and then the movement, outdoors, again, would, would make that big difference so I feel very confident.”

He says he respects the businesses and communities that have decided to keep their mask mandates.

Walz says he believes the number of infected people will keep dropping.

“There is nothing in the numbers that indicate that we’re seeing any rise at all, it’s continuing to drop it’s following the pattern that we thought it would. And that will only get better as the vaccination rates go up.”

Walz says the numbers should remain relatively flat over the summer and at a low rate.
