(KNSI) – The National Weather Service says the area will experience near critical fire weather conditions on Tuesday.
Warm, dry, and windy conditions will persist into the afternoon as dry air moves in behind a cold front.
Forecasters say winds will pick up to around 20 to 25 miles an hour, with gusts over 40 miles an hour with relative humidity values around 25%. The driest conditions will be around west central Minnesota, which has not gotten nearly the same amount of rainfall as the rest of the state in the last day or so.
Recent rains around central Minnesota and elsewhere have led to a green-up of vegetation in agricultural areas and grasslands, which forecasters say will help mitigate the overall fire weather threat. Dry and susceptible vegetation still remains in marshland and other swampy areas.
Even though the St. Cloud area saw an official high Monday of 86, it was not a record. The record for the day is 94, which was set in 2010.
