(KNSI) – A Sauk Rapids man has been sentenced for a weapons charge that stemmed from an incident in South Dakota.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 48-year-old Ron Carlo Carter was stopped for speeding in South Dakota. Police say he had a .9 mm pistol and admitted he also used marijuana and methamphetamine, making it illegal for him to have a gun.

Carter was indicted by a federal grand jury in September of 2020 and pleaded guilty in November.

Carter must serve 30 days in custody, followed by two years of supervised release and a fine of $5,000, plus a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
