(KNSI) – St. Cloud staff joined the mayor and planted 50 trees on Tuesday.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says the trees were planted as a late Arbor Day celebration.

“The city of St. Cloud, it’s tree city, USA. I think we’ve had that designation for close to 40 years.”

He hopes residents take advantage of the new greenery as it grows.

“We hae the city’s finest here planting trees in Liberty Glen along the Mississippi River. We have a beautiful view of the Mississippi River. So come on down here and enjoy these trees.”

Liberty Glen is just south of Riverside Park, down the grand staircase.

To maintain St. Cloud’s Tree City USA statues, the city must spend two dollars per capita on trees and hold a tree planting event.

St. Cloud has 96 parks and will ads a 97 park later this year when Clark Field is turned into a public green space.
