(KNSI) – Mere hours after Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey announced a comprehensive set of public safety proposals that he said would make all neighborhoods in the city safe while holding police officers accountable, another child was shot.

This time, the girl is six years old.

Police say gunshots rang out around the area of 36th and Penn Avenues North last night. She was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center. Her condition is unknown. She is the latest child to be hurt in a recent spate of shootings involving innocent children.

Meanwhile, nine-year-old Trinitity Ottoson-Smith is fighting for her life after being shot in the head Saturday evening while jumping on a trampoline with friends in a Minneapolis backyard. Trinity is in critical condition. Her hospital room at North Memorial Medical Center is right next door to 10-year-old Ladavionne Garret of St. Cloud, who was shot while in the back seat of his parents’ car in Minneapolis last month.

No one has been arrested in any of these shootings.

Police say 21 kids have now been either shot or hit by stray bullet fragments in the city just this year.
