(KNSI) – A former Brooklyn Center Police Officer who shot and killed a man trying to flee a traffic stop will go to trial in December.
Kim Potter will face a jury on December 6 on a charge of second-degree manslaughter in the death of Daunte Wright.
She made her court appearance via videoconference on Monday afternoon.
Wright was a 20-year-old driver killed on April 11 after a traffic stop for expired tabs.
Officer learned he had a warrant for his arrest, and when they went to handcuff Wright, he resited and jumped back into his car.
The former Brooklyn Center police chief said he believes Potter meant to use her Taser on Wright but fired her handgun instead.
Wright drove a short distance away and died from his injuries.
