(KNSI) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota are in the need of volunteers to serve in every capacity.
One of the biggest needs is for mentors. Right now, 117 kids are waiting got a ‘Big’ to be teamed up with.
Community Engagement Manager with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota Tina Johanning says it doesn’t take any special skills and you can change the life of a child.
“You’re willing to step up and defend the potential of kids. As long as you’re filling out what we need, going through the process. That’s all we ask for. They change your life as well as you changing thiers.”
The St. Cloud based Big Brothers Big Sisters office serves a five-county area that includes Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Morrison, and northern Wright County.
Johanning told KNSI’s Bob Hughes that reaching kids outside of St. Cloud is one of the biggest challenges.
“We have a lot of kids in their outlying communities that we’re needing volunteers for.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters has also started a new program called Sports Buddies.
Kids in the program will go with their mentors to sporting events throughout the St. Cloud area and the state.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is also hosting their 5th annual Bigs on-campus tour.
Students from South Jr. High in St. Cloud will get a tour of St. Cloud State University in order to get them exposed to higher education.
