(KNSI) – A one-year-old child has died in a house fire near Remer.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office says first responders were called around 1:45 a.m. on Friday to a home in Boy Lake Township.

Deputies arrived and found a duplex engulfed in fire. Deputies began checking the home, which was filled with smoke and fire.

A woman was found in a bedroom and quickly taken out of the home.

Three fire departments arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire.

Authorities found the one-year-old boy inside the burned-out home.

The investigation indicates that another woman and three children escaped the fire before responders arriving.

An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The fire investigation continues with the assistance of the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department.
