(KNSI) – The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for a large portion of central and western Minnesota. The red flag warning is in effect until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 1st.

Temperatures will rise to near 90 Saturday, combined with low relative humidity values around 15 to 25% and higher wind gusts of 25 to 35 miles an hour, make a perfect recipe for dangerous fire weather conditions.

With these conditions, fires could easily start and spread quickly despite the recent green-up of some vegetation. Residents are asked not to burn anything while the red flag warning remains in effect and check any burning done recently to ensure the fire is out. Any spark could become a wildfire under red flag conditions.
