(KNSI) – As part of its celebration of the Paramount Theatre’s 100th anniversary, the Paramount Center for the Arts is commissioning a Minnesota sculptor to create a new art installation outside the theatre.
“As I consider the 100th year of the Paramount Theatre, I think of a rich jewel, a diamond, created by stress and pressure, enduring, unconquerable, with many brilliant facets of fire,” Bob Johnson, the Paramount’s executive director, said. “Besides years of music, dance, plays and films, this theatre has seen war, fire, deterioration, and a pandemic. Yet it stands strong and ready to support the community through art, entertainment, and culture for the next 100 years.”
The Paramount has hired Karl Unnasch to create the sculpture, which the Paramount describes as “an architectural steel form, fitted with facets of stained glass, and lit from within.” Unnasch is assisted by two other local artists: Mary Bruno and Sam Spiczka.
The commissioned piece will be installed on the sidewalk in front of the Paramount with an unveiling scheduled for July 15th.
