(KNIS) – While police departments come under intense scrutiny across the country, officials say St. Cloud is doing policing right.
Mayor Dave Kleis told KNSI’s Bob Hughes that the things the St. Cloud Police Department is doing, others should copy.
“We do a lot of things differently. Our community policing is our connections and our partnerships with the community, but our training is top-notch. We don’t compromise that in any way. We hire the best.”
Kleis says it takes a very special person to wear that uniform.
“Whether you wear the uniform of your nation or whether you wear the uniform of your community, the police, your fire, your EMTs, these are not easy jobs, and they’re even more challenging now in the world we live in. In the atmosphere, we live in here in this country. These folks really deserve our honor and praise.”
He fears it will become more of a challenge to get people to become police officers.
Multiple shootings and killings of unarmed people by police sparked protests, unrest, and rioting in the last year.
