(KNSI) – Students around the St. Cloud area walked out of school on Monday to protest racial injustice.

The walkouts took place at one in the afternoon.

A couple of hundred students from Sartell-Saint Stephen High School walked out and held a rally with signs and student speakers near the school’s flagpole.

More than 100 students walked out at Tech High School, and a handful walked out at Apollo High School in St. Cloud.

The rallies ended after about 45 minutes with a moment of silence.

There were no reports of Students walking out of Sauk Rapids-Rice schools.

School administrators told KNSI News that students who took part in the walkouts would be given unexcused absences.

The School Districts stated they wouldn’t stop the students from exercising their First Amendment right to protest.

The walkouts were part of a coordinated statewide effort organized on social media by MNTeenActivists.

The group claimed 110 schools participated in the event.

The last time students participated in a statewide walkout was following the Parkland Flordia school shooting in 2018.
