(KNSI) – The former Children’s Home in St. Cloud has been declared unsafe after a fire earlier this month.

The former residential treatment center for children and teens with mental health and behavior issues caught fire during the early morning hours on April 7th.

St. Cloud Fire Marshal Mike Post says the owners of the building will need to tear the structure down or brace it and repair it.

The fire marshal hasn’t found what caused the fire but has ruled out lighting as a cause.

The Diocese of St. Cloud operated the former 60-bed residential treatment facility for children and teens suffering from mental health and behavior issues until it closed in 2017.

The property has been bought by an out-of-state company with plans to turn the campus into a residential treatment center for teens.
