(KNSI) – A landmark building in St. Cloud is celebrating a century of entertainment in 2021.

The Paramount Center for the Arts, commonly called the Paramount Theatre, opened on Christmas Eve 1921 as the Sherman Theatre Marquee.

“Since then that theater has been through a lot of different times in our history, both through the depression through World War Two, through the theater being in a state of disrepair, and the community coming back and saying this place is really important to us and the renovation that happened in 1998,” said Paramount Director Gretchen Boulka.

“We’re doing a lot to remember all those wonderful and challenging times and also look to the future because we really feel like you know, the Paramount Theater is a place that needs to be here for the next 100 years.”

In the months leading up to the Paramount’s Birthday, there are several community events planned.

The Paramount will commission a community art piece for St. Cloud in honor of the 100 anniversary.

At the end of August, there will be a block party out front of the Paramount.

The annual Autumn Moon fundraiser in the fall will be the Centennial Celebration.

On December 24, the Paramount will host a birthday celebration with a cake and punch.
