Update: 3:55 p.m.: The Minnesota State Patrol reports that one person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 near Monticello on Friday.

Just after 10:30 a.m., the state patrol says a 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling eastbound on I-94 near milepost 193 in the right lane. A 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling in the same direction in the left lane. The vehicles crashed, causing the Dodge to lose control and roll.

The Dodge’s driver, identified as a 37-year-old man from St. Paul, has died. The state patrol says it will release more information on that driver later Friday. Reed Eldon Engel, 38 of Maple Grove, was driving the Nissan. The state patrol lists no injuries for Engel and says he was wearing his seatbelt. Neither of the vehicles’ airbags deployed.

The state patrol was assisted by the Monticello Fire Department, CentraCare and Life Link Air Care.

Update, 2:50 p.m.: Both directions of 1-94 are now open between Clearwater and Monticello.

(KNSI) – A crash on Interstate 94 is causing traffic problems.

Eastbound lanes between Wright County Road 8 (near Clearwater) and Exit 193 (Minnesota Highway 25 Monticello).

The road is closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles.

A detour has been set up.
