(KNSI) – Two people are dead after a two-vehicle head-on crash in Foley on Monday.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that just before 6:30 p.m., a 2014 Chrystler 200, driven by 20-year-old Amber Violet Merten, was traveling eastbound on Highway 23. A 1998 Chevy Tahoe, driven by 57-year-old Richard Thomas Theisen, was traveling westbound on the highway. The state patrol says the vehicles crashed head-on near milepost 222 within Foley.

Merten and Theisen died in the crash. There were no passengers in either vehicle. The state patrol says the roadway was wet, the airbags deployed in both vehicles and both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Foley Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance and North Aircare responded to the scene.
