(KNSI) – Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a 26-year-old Rockville man to die at a birthday party over the weekend.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says Saul Cano was at the Rock N River Event Center in Wakefield Township on Saturday night when he collapsed.

When first responders arrived, Cano was unconscious and not breathing.

Officer began CPR and used an automated external defibrillator to shock his heart, but he didn’t regain consciousness.

The initial investigation determined that Cano had been involved in an altercation 20 to 40 minutes before he collapsed.

Witnesses told deputies that there was some pushing and Cano had fallen to the floor.

The person who had an altercation with Cano was arrested.

Cano’s remains were sent to the Mid-West Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The examiner said the autopsy showed no evidence of any traumatic injuries.

The detained person was released on Monday and was not charged.

The investigation is ongoing.
