(KNSI) – The officer involved in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man in Brooklyn Center has been identified.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) says Officer Kim Potter fired her gun on Sunday, killing Daunte Wright from Minneapolis.
Potter has been with the Brooklyn Center Police Department for 26 years.
She is on standard administrative leave.
On Sunday afternoon, police pulled over Wright for a minor traffic infraction.
Investigators say police learned he had a gross misdemeanor warrant for his arrest and attempted to take Wright into custody.
Wright is seen on Bodycam footage breaking free from police and getting back into his car.
Officer Potter pulled her handgun and fired one shot killing Wright.
At a press conference, Brooklyn Center’s Police Chief stated Potter thought she had pulled her Tsar.
The police department called the shooting accidental.
The BCA investigation is ongoing.
