(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Health reports 2,659 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths on Friday. The death count includes one Morrison County resident who was in their late 90s.

There are 317 new cases reported in the five-county St. Cloud area, including 101 found in Wright County. Benton County adds 26 cases, Morrison 21, Sherburne County 82 and Stearns County 87.

The state’s COVID-19 test volume is going up; on Thursday, Minnesota processed 56,647 tests for a one-day test positivity rate of 4.7 percent.

This comes as 44 percent of Minnesotans age 16 and older have gotten at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. More than 1,940,000 people have received the shot, and of that group, two-thirds are now fully vaccinated.

Gaps still exist among racial and ethnic groups in Minnesota’s vaccine rollout. While some of those disparities have improved in recent weeks, some populations are still being vaccinated at a slower rate. From March 27th to April 3rd, Asian/Pacific Islander Minnesotans had the biggest increase in vaccination by population, growing 4.8 percentage points from 25.1 percent to 29.9 percent vaccinated with at least one dose. White Minnesotans saw a similar increase during that week, going from 37.5 percent to 41.6 percent (4.1 percentage points) vaccinated. Other racial groups’ vaccination status did not grow as much.

Change in percent of population vaccinated with at least one dose for COVID-19 between 3/27 and 4/3

  • American Indian Minnesotans: 30.3 percent to 32.2 percent (1.9 percentage points)
  • Black Minnesotans: 20.6 percent to 23.3 percent (2.7 percentage points)
  • Hispanic Minnesotans: 17.6 percent to 21.1 percent (3.5 percentage points)
  • Multiracial Minnesotans: 6.6 percent to 7.6 percent (1 percentage point)
Overall, 3,118,678 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered into the arms of Minnesota residents. 51.2 percent of those doses are Pfizer’s vaccine, 45.1 are Moderna and 3.6 are Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose vaccine.
