(KNSI) – A majority of American voters are consuming a lot or some coverage of the Derek Chauvin murder trial in Minneapolis.

A poll from Politico and Morning Consult shows that 44 percent of voters say they’re consuming a lot of news about the trial, while 33 percent say they’re consuming some news. Black voters, Hispanic voters and Democrats are more likely to be keeping up with the trial than other groups.

Among those who are not keeping tabs on Chauvin’s trial, 27 percent of Democrats and 18 of Republicans say they aren’t following it because they don’t expect anything to change. Thirty-five percent of Democrats polled who are abstaining from watching the trial say they are doing so because it’s emotionally upsetting. Similarly, one out of four Democrats not following the trial say their reason is that it’s traumatizing.

Forty-two percent of Republicans and 14 percent of Democrats who aren’t following the trial say they are doing so because they’re not interested.
