(KNSI) – A Sauk Rapids restaurant is holding a grand re-opening after making some upgrades.

Old Capital Tavern will be open on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for dinner. The restaurant has been closed for two months.

The restaurant has undergone two significant changes, including renovations to the kitchen to speed up order taking and other efficiencies to help food get served quicker.

Old Capital Tavern General Manager Mitch Eickhoff says another change will be noticed right away.

“We’re opening up with a brand new menu. And we’re revamping the menu trying to bring the Old Cap back to what it used to be back in the days when we were a little bit more experimental and, not your typical burger joint.”

Mitch says he hired Head Chef Kris Carver to help him give the menu a makeover.

“Were getting steaks back on the menu, They’re going to be really good. We haven’t had them for a couple of years. Oh, we got a couple of different things. We’ve got shrimp etouffee and we got pho on the menu,”

Pho (pronounced Fuh like duh) is a Vietnamese soup made with a spicy broth, noodles, herbs, and meat. Shrimp etouffee is a French dish, meaning smothered in a sort of stew-like gravy.

He says these are dishes that are a little different but something that people will enjoy.

Mitch says he’s happy to be able to welcome customers again.

“I’m excited about everything. It’s been a long two months. We’ve been shut down since February 1 and we’re just super excited about waiting on customers and cooking again.”

The restaurant will open to in-person dining first and add some outdoor seating in a few weeks.
