(KNSI) – A local grocery store wins an award for educating others about the fight against hunger.

As part of the Minnesota Grocers Association’s 2020 Bag Hunger Campaign, Coborn’s in Sauk Rapids teamed up with Post Consumer Brands in Lakeville to make an educational display that informed people about food insecurity. The Coborn’s-Post team earned a Best Creative Partnership Silver Plate from the MGA for its display.

The MGA says the companies involved in the Bag Hunger Campaign collectively donated $19,000 to Second Harvest Heartland and other hunger relief organizations in Minnesota last year, providing 1.7 million meals.

“The success of the Bag Hunger Campaign is driven by the exceptional efforts and generosity of our members, vendor partners, community food support agencies and, most significantly, Minnesota’s grocery customers,” said Jamie Pfuhl, president of the MGA. “The excitement and dedication demonstrated by all partners, participants, and community members is inspiring. Grocers are essential to the communities they serve and are proud to play a role in this collective effort to end hunger in Minnesota.”

Each Silver Plate-winning grocery store or team gets $1,000 to donate to a food charity of its choice.
