(KNSI) – Veterans in Central Minnesota are asked to sign up for their COVID-19 vaccine to help manage the limited doses and share their plans to get vaccinated.
Officials say by sharing vaccination plans, veterans can help the VA better plan and do the best with a limited vaccine supply.
The St. Cloud VA is providing shots as quickly and safely as possible.
Eligibility is based on VA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, available supply, and COVID-19 risk criteria.
If you’re veteran getting care through the VA, you will be asked about your vaccine plans when you sign up for a vaccine.
If you’re enrolled through VA, you don’t have to sign up to get a vaccine, but you may get one faster if you do.
The VA will contact every enrolled eligible Veteran to ask if they want to get a vaccine.
They may contact vets by phone, email, or text message. Before providing any personal information or click on any links, be sure the call, email, or text is really from VA.
Text messages will always come from 53079. Emails will always come from a va.gov email address.
If someone calls you from VA and you don’t recognize the phone number, ask for a number to call them back, then call the VA to verify.
If you’re a Veteran, spouse, or caregiver not receiving care through VA, you should sign up to tell the VA if you want to get a vaccine.
If you’re eligible, the VA will contact you when a vaccine is available.
At this time, the VA doesn’t know when that will be.
The St. Cloud VA reminds veterans that their employer, pharmacy, or local public health officials may offer a COVID-19 vaccine.
The VA encourages veterans to take the first opportunity they have to get a vaccine.
