(KNSI) — The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of a large grass fire in Wakefield Township early Sunday morning.

A press release says someone called 911 about 12:30 to report the fire on the south side of County Road 50 near 158th Avenue. The caller estimated the fire was around 200 by 50 feet in size but said there were no buildings in the path of the fire. There were also no buildings or vehicles anywhere nearby.

Traffic was shut down in both directions on County Road 50 while crews put out the fire. Heavy smoke was also blowing across the road.

The sheriff’s office says the fire burned around seven acres, but no structural damage was reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
